Groundwater & Sewer Risk in Low-Lying Sections Managed

Lyndhurst Township’s low-lying sections present a dual waterproofing challenge that is among the most demanding in Bergen County — the combination of groundwater pressure from elevated seasonal water tables and sewer surcharge risk during heavy storm events that can push water back through floor drains and foundation penetrations. These two mechanisms operate simultaneously during major Passaic County storms, requiring waterproofing systems that address both independently.
Homeowners across Lyndhurst Township deal with a complex dual hazard when heavy rainfall causes groundwater surges and sewer back-ups to occur at the exact same time. During severe Bergen County storms, even robust sump pumps can be bypassed entirely as municipal lines back up, forcing water into lower levels through plumbing connections and ruining indoor air quality. Preventing this messy intrusion requires specialized backwater valve installations alongside standard basement drainage systems. Our technicians bring a combined 50 years of team experience to configure these advanced multi-point defenses, keeping your foundation secure and completely isolated from external water hazards.

Advanced Interior & Exterior Water Drainage Systems

Interior French Drains

We install perforated piping beneath Lyndhurst basement floors that manages the groundwater pressure component of the dual-mechanism flooding risk — capturing rising groundwater and directing it to sump systems before it seeps through floor joints and wall cracks under the hydrostatic pressure that Lyndhurst’s low-lying water table creates during storm events.

Exterior French Drains

Our yard trench networks lower overall soil saturation around local foundation perimeters during peak precipitation seasons. This successfully reduces the heavy exterior groundwater load that contributes to intense foundation pressure across Lyndhurst’s most low-lying, water-table-affected residential sections, protecting structural masonry from seasonal water damage.

Channel Drains

To assist Lyndhurst properties with sloped driveways that concentrate water during intense storms, channel drains intercept and redirect surface flow before it adds to the groundwater and surface water loading challenging exposed properties.

Total Basement & Foundation Waterproofing Solutions

Basement Waterproofing Services

We apply commercial crystalline or membrane sealants to Lyndhurst basement walls and floors to establish permanent interior moisture barriers. This robust application controls the groundwater seepage mechanism, working alongside our advanced sewer protection components to systematically isolate and eliminate municipal water surcharge risks.

Foundation Waterproofing Services

For Lyndhurst homes in the most low-lying sections where groundwater table proximity creates year-round foundation moisture pressure, exterior rubberized membrane application provides comprehensive protection that addresses the exterior moisture load before it reaches the foundation wall.

Masonry Services for Waterproofing

Low-lying Lyndhurst foundations experience the mortar erosion and crack development that sustained high moisture contact produces — structural conditions requiring professional assessment and repair before waterproofing membranes provide lasting protection in this moisture-intensive environment.

Crawl Space Management, Sump Pumps & Egress Services

Concealed humidity beneath your flooring yields extensive wood rot and poor indoor air quality. We treat these sub-level zones through mechanical and structural upgrades.

Crawl Space Encapsulation

By encapsulating Lyndhurst crawl spaces in heavy-duty high-mil vapor barriers, we block continuous soil moisture from low-lying water tables. This professional system stops groundwater evaporation, protecting delicate floor framing from the chronic, year-round humidity produced by these moisture-dense, river-adjacent soil environments.

Sump Pumps

We install primary and battery-backup sump pumps sized for Lyndhurst’s combined groundwater and storm volume conditions — ensuring continuous water ejection through the peak storm periods when both groundwater rise and sewer surcharge risk are simultaneously elevated.

Window Wells & Egress Windows

We install properly drained window wells and egress windows for Lyndhurst’s residential properties — managing surface moisture at below-grade openings while providing the emergency egress capability that current building standards require and that Lyndhurst’s flood-risk environment makes particularly important.
We handle structural brick repairs, safety inspections, and premium flue relining for Lyndhurst’s chimneys.
From shingle repair to complete roof replacements protecting your home from above.
One standalone upgrade is not enough for total property defense. To insulate your home from the seasonal North Jersey elements, we apply our classic 50-year master expertise in:

Total Home Protection in Lyndhurst Township

Why Choose A1 Everlast for Waterproofing?

Serving Lyndhurst Township, New Jersey with 50 years of collective structural waterproofing experience.
Lyndhurst’s dual groundwater-and-sewer risk creates a waterproofing challenge where addressing only one mechanism leaves the other fully operational — a partial solution that Lyndhurst homeowners have often experienced when a new sump pump installation successfully manages the groundwater component but sewer surcharge continues to produce floor drain backup during major storms. A1 Everlast has served Bergen County’s most complex moisture-challenge communities for over 50 years, and our Lyndhurst approach addresses both risk mechanisms in the initial assessment rather than leaving one for a subsequent service call after the incomplete initial solution fails to protect the basement during the next peak storm event.
The sewer surcharge component is particularly important in Lyndhurst’s low-lying sections, where the elevation relationship between basement floor drains and the sewer main creates the reverse-flow conditions that push sewer water into basements during system overload. Backwater valve installation on the lateral sewer line — in coordination with the groundwater drainage system — provides the complete dual-mechanism protection that Lyndhurst’s affected sections require. Every project is fully warranted and completed by licensed, insured professionals with same-day and next-day estimates available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about our services.

How does sewer surcharge specifically cause basement flooding in Lyndhurst's low-lying sections?
During major Bergen County storm events, Lyndhurst’s combined sewer system receives more water volume than its capacity can discharge — stormwater enters the system faster than it can flow to the treatment plant or outfall. When the system becomes pressurized, water reverses flow in lateral pipes connecting homes to the main sewer line, pushing back up through floor drains, toilet connections, and other sewer-connected openings in the basement. This reverse-flow water enters the basement through the sewer system rather than through the foundation — meaning it bypasses sump pumps and drain tile systems entirely, since those systems are designed to manage groundwater intrusion through the foundation, not sewer backflow.
A backwater valve is a one-way valve installed on the lateral sewer pipe that connects your home to the municipal sewer main. It allows sewage to flow out normally but closes automatically when reverse flow pressure is detected — physically blocking the pressurized sewer water from entering through your floor drains and toilet connections during surcharge events. Unlike sump pumps and drain tile, which address groundwater entering through the foundation, backwater valves specifically address the sewer surcharge mechanism. In Lyndhurst’s dual-risk environment, both systems are typically necessary for complete basement protection.
Waterproofing system installation — drain tile, sump, crystalline treatment — is within our standard project scope. Backwater valve installation on the lateral sewer line requires coordination with Lyndhurst Township’s utility requirements and typically involves a licensed plumber for the sewer lateral work. We coordinate this coordination for Lyndhurst homeowners who need both components, ensuring the complete dual-mechanism protection system is specified and installed in a logical sequence that addresses both risks comprehensively.
Lower elevation means the foundation sits closer to the regional water table — there is less depth of unsaturated soil between the water table and the basement floor, which means the water table needs to rise less dramatically during a storm event to reach foundation-pressurizing levels. In Lyndhurst’s most low-lying sections, the water table may be within a few feet of the basement floor under normal conditions and may reach or exceed basement floor elevation during major storm events. Higher-elevation Bergen County communities may have 10 or more feet of unsaturated soil above their water table, requiring much more significant rainfall to generate foundation-level groundwater pressure. This elevation difference explains why Lyndhurst’s flooding risk is more severe than comparable properties in elevated Bergen County communities.
Groundwater risk in Lyndhurst varies significantly based on proximity to low-lying sections, elevation above the Passaic River and Hackensack River drainage corridors, and soil drainage characteristics at specific locations. Properties in the most low-lying sections face the most acute groundwater rise during storm events; properties on the slightly more elevated sections of the township face lower but still meaningful groundwater risk. Our Lyndhurst assessments evaluate the specific elevation and drainage characteristics of each property before specifying system capacity — ensuring the solution is calibrated for what each specific location actually faces rather than applying maximum-specification systems uniformly across the township.

Back in 2020 A1 Everlast demo’d my dad’s front stairs and rebuilt a beautiful stone porch & set of stairs in its place. They were a great bunch of guys knowledgeable, kind, quick & skilled. Unfortunately due to the weather & a lot of rain the stairs sustained a little damage. Since my dad passed away in 2024 I reached out to Tim to inquire about the 10yr warranty they had given for their workmanship. I can’t say enough about Tim. He was so apologetic & went to work right away to resolve the problems we were encountering. All while he himself was dealing w/ a private health issue within his family. Thank you Tim for everything I highly recommend A1 Everlast for all concrete and stair/porch work! They are #1

We had a great experience with A1 Everlast. They rebuilt our fireplace box, installed a new liner, and added a new crown, and everything was done with excellent attention to detail. John was especially attentive throughout the process and made everything feel simple and stress-free.

The team was very professional, respectful, and easy to work with. We also really appreciated how quickly they were able to get started—coming out the very next day after inspecting our chimney.

Overall, we’re extremely happy with the quality of the work and would highly recommend A1 Everlast to anyone needing chimney repairs or restoration!

If you are looking for a contracting company that actually delivers on its promises, look no further than A1 Everlast. From start to finish, my experience was nothing short of exceptional, and that is largely thanks to Anthony.
In an industry where it’s hard to find people you can trust, Anthony is a breath of fresh air. His professionalism was evident from our very first meeting; he arrived on time, respected my property, and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. What impressed me most was his depth of knowledge. He didn't just give me a quote; he took the time to explain the technical aspects of the job, offered intelligent solutions for my specific needs, and ensured I understood exactly what was being done and why.
Perhaps most importantly, Anthony operates with a level of honesty that is rare to find. A number of contractors I've come across in my years of being a real estate investor have attempted to fabricate issues just to secure a job to perform. It was intuitively clear to me that after speaking with Anthony this was not the case. His assessment was genuine and tailored to my specific needs. Words cannot explain how pleased and satsified I am in dealing with A1. To many more, thanks Everlast and just as importantly thank you Anthony!

We had Bob come and take a look at our chimney and roof as we are first time home buyers and wanted to ensure the chimney was in working order. we also noticed with our roof a small soft spot on our ceiling that he was able to find out that there was a small portion on our roof that needed some work to stop the issue. He was personable, professional, and ensured that all our questions were answered/ satisfied. 10/10 would recommend giving Bob a call!

Very responsive, professional, and punctual team. I called Anthony in the morning, he was at the house that same afternoon, and had workers on site by 9 a.m. the following day to repair a gas/carbon monoxide leak. He estimated the job would be done by 3 p.m., and it was completed by 1:30. Highly recommend them — 100%.

Chimney repair due to water damage and age. They also installed a new damper. Timmy, Carlos, and Victor were all excellent. They did the job with excellence and they did it quickly. From the time I called to the time they signed the contract was quick, the price was reasonable, and they were just a pleasure to work with. Once we signed the contract, they arrived to do the job as scheduled only days later. They were on time. They were polite and courteous. They did a great job and cleaned up very neatly afterwards. No hassles.
